Originally, chainmaille was woven into armor that provided a highly effective defense against Medieval weapons. Like the armor, chainmaille jewelry consists of small metal rings linked together in a pattern to form a mesh. This particular weave, the “Japanese,” is geometric and consists of a double layer of links, which allows the resulting daisy shape to hold its shape beautifully. The delicate lacey pattern of the chainmaille references the intricate embroidery at the collar of traditional dresses throughout the East. The gold-fill links serve to deepen the underlying yellow tones of the moss agate. However, any semi-precious stone of your choice may be used here, and the result would be just as successful.
